Season’s passion and commitment to serving great food, especially seafood, is steeped in history. Season was created by the Platten family who have been serving fresh, local produce to their customers for four generations from their recently relaunched fish and chip takeaway The Fisherman’s Yard, which is located on the beautiful Well’s Quay. Their vision was to create an atmospheric, friendly dining experience with honest, locally sourced, fresh food for the people of Wells-next-the-Sea and beyond. Together with husband and wife duo Jeremy and Rachael Parke who run and manage Season, they are doing just that. For more information on Jeremy, Rachel and their team, please take a look at our Team page.
Fresh, seasonal food is so important to us, especially because the quality and taste of produce is dependent on whether it is in season! We also take the time to work and create relationships with local suppliers so we can always offer a locally sourced menu with sustainable, traceable ingredients. We’re really proud of our food sourcing methods - not only because they offer our diners local and delicious ingredients, but that by staying local, we’ve reduced our carbon footprint too.
In fact, don’t be surprised if you see Billy Ward, our lobster supplier or A & M Frary, who supply our mussels and crabs, delivering straight from the sea to our door… boots and all! From delicious classics such as Moules Marinière and lobster grilled in garlic and rosemary butter to mussels steamed with local Aspall cider, ‘Perfick’ pork, bacons, leeks and cream or Wells brown crab baked with Norfolk dapple, spring onion, mustard & cream, you’ll be spoilt for seafood choice…
We’re also really proud of our relationship with Brancaster Staithe’s Richard Loose who supplies our oyster’s fresh from the beds of Brancaster (which, by the way, are perfect with a crisp glass of Pierre Bertrand 1er Cru NV Champagne, our champagne of choice for oysters). Last year, Richard was singled out as a ‘food hero’ by Delicious magazine for his passion and commitment to oyster farming.
As well as great seafood, we also offer a superb grill menu and our carefully chosen meat supplier is the award-winning Swannington Farm to Fork who impressed us with their informative farm and butchery – and their exceptionally reared meat. All you need to do is decide between T bone, Ribeye, Rump, Sirloin or Hanger or why not share a Tomahawk surf and turf with tempura cockles, mussels, smoked salmon and prawns…
No meal, or relaxed dining experience, is complete without the perfect drink. Our carefully sourced drinks menu has a wonderful selection of wines, spirits and specially created cocktails for you to enjoy.
Our in-house team select all the drinks on offer. Our wine list changes with our food menu to reflect and suit the seasonal dishes we create. We select wines from around the world and offer our diners a wide range of tastes, styles and prices so that you can find the perfect drinks accompaniment for your meal.
Our knowledgeable staff are always on hand to recommend wines or spirits so please feel free to ask for suggestions. With a selection of reds, whites, bubbly and rosé you’ll be spoilt for choice. We also have a gin of the month that you can sample and we are always on the lookout for interesting suppliers who offer something new or different so don’t forget to check out our seasonal spirit such as Norfolk Gin. Unsurprisingly, a very popular tipple with the locals!
Or why not try one of our bespoke cocktails? Carefully considered to reflect the seasons and use only premium spirits, all our cocktails are umbrella and sparkler free as we like to focus on quality spirits, a restrained hand and enhancing garnishes.
Our new autumn cocktails include our very popular Norfolk Delight, using Norfolk gin, fresh orange and rose lemonade, a taste of Turkish delight enjoyed over looking our stunning harbour in Wells
